Pacha Manka - Music from Latin America

The group Pachamanka was founded in June 1979 in Pudahuel, a working district of Santiago de Chile. Luis Parra Madariaga was one of the founders and acts until present as the leader of the group.

After working for several years in Chile and despite the times of difficulties, the group Pachamanka continued to play and bring their music to the people, the group left Chile in 1981 to stay for the next three years in Uruguay from where they made a tour to Brazil.

From 1983-89 the group moved to Spain and gave concerts in numerous cities with a highlighting their solidarity with Latin America.

After that the group took residence in Vienna, Austria, from where they made concert tours to Slovenia, Hungary, Germany, Spain, England and Switzerland. They were also involved in radio and TV programmes, as well as TV and movie productions. In cooperation with the actor Marko Simsa the group developed a special programme for children. Pachamanka has so far produced 6 CDs – three of which were produced in South-America and three in Europe. The repertoire of the group is suitable for all kinds of shows from ethnic festivals to various parties.

The typical sound of the music of Pachamanka has its origins in the sensitive and authentic rhythms and melodies which echo the character of the native people of Latin America. The mixture of instruments, melodies and songs originates from the reality of the exact reproduction of the musical roots which lends the Indian and African composers the musical temperament and character, without forgetting creole influence.

By interpreting various modern songs and rhythms without denying the essence and roots of them the audience will get the full scope of Latin-America music.
